  1. Is broadside on as far from the three quarter view as possible? Dore with a passing East Mids 222:
  2. Last I saw was LNER has ordered 10 x 10-coach trains from CAF to replace the 91 sets, see https://www.lner.co.uk/news/first-tri-mode-long-distance-trains-for-east-coast-main-line/ They ordered them in late 2023, so delivery anyone’s guess?
  3. Third theory - driver training on handling them with a load? Fourth theory - RTT has it as "Test" so maybe running in/testing after some attention to the mechanicals?
  4. Two “why” s from the previous post: Why such a long routing to go back home? Possibly to reverse the wagons? But a shorter route to accomplish that would be Tonbridge-Deal- Minster curve-Ashford-Tonbridge. Route learning? But why would you need the wagons? Why a class 0 (0Z73) when there are not just locos running? edit: just answered the second - it ran as 6Z73 https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:89449/2024-07-17/detailed
  5. CEP-BEP-CEP formations did work via Rochester, Vic-Ramsgate (front 8) + Dover (rear 4) until the late 70s refurbishments. And the ferry on the River Medway at Strood in C3816 has been replaced by a Russian submarine! Edit: did I get front/rear mixed up? Can't be sure.
  6. Think so… it was a departmental-numbered sleeper KDB975888, so in 1983, would it have got condemned then rescued for departmental use, or transferred earlier then condemned from departmental use? departmentals.com says scrapped in 1985, but no other info. https://www.departmentals.com/departmental/975888
  7. Or put it in a freight train - see photo 4 at https://www.rmweb.co.uk/forums/topic/184305-freight-train-formations-wcml-early-80s/?do=findComment&comment=5431584
  8. Reverse view, train photo taken from the bus on the bridge, but not quite perfectly timed. Rotherham Central
  9. Any catering car experts out there? Looks like an unusual one somehow but can’t put my finger on it.
  10. Just to add one more to the Rhine Gorge photos - it's a great place for spotting: Some sort of excursion with historic stock and a spotty class 111 at Rüdesheim recently, vineyards above.
  11. Anyone know if that view is still possible? Looking at maps, there seems to be a footpath running from the station up the hillside, but it's hard to see if the vegetation is in the way on an aerial photo!
  12. As I said, among many other meanings!
  13. "Lösen" is used for "to book" a ticket (among many other meanings!), and "nach" can mean "after", so it's kind of logical really. As for Google Translate, it's surprisingly good most of the time (and better with more common language pairs), but the rest of the time it doesn't like saying "I'm not sure what this means", and instead guesses wildly. Trouble is, unless you know the answer already, you can't tell whether its translation is confident or a guess.
