Kerizac
Hello, this is my very first post on this great forum. I'm a big fan of micro, boxfiles, plank and shunting layouts. I also like roundy-round layouts. I'm planning to build a small shunting layout (4' x 10" or 1.20 x 0.25m). I'll run short wheelbase wagons and a few funny Hornby 0-4-0. All your advices and comments will be very appreciated. Thanks. Edited August 17, 2019 by Kerizac
Kerizac
The photos found in this forum gave me a few ideas for my plan: Enigma Engineering This video also gave me another load of ideas for the track plan: oo gauge parcel coach to goods shed + autotrain
Andrew Cockburn
Looks like an interesting plan, with plenty of scope for shunting operations. I too am a fan of small-scale/limited space shunting layouts (I currently have six, one of which, believe it or not, is stored in a flight case!), it will be interesting to see how your own concept progresses .....
Kerizac
Thanks for your reply. I don't plan landscape yet (and probably never will) because I only want to do shunting. No Inglenook or Timesaver rules will be applied. It's a free country here !
Andrew Cockburn
Whatever takes your fancy! No hard/fast rules re railway modelling, as you say its a free country!

Kerizac
I use an old DC controller (see below), a few coffee stirrers as coupling/uncoupling tools and little help from the Hand of God. Kerizac
I just ordered three new nice little wagons:
Andrew Cockburn
OMG, that looks like a rather antiquated controller! But still, if it works, then that's all that surely matters. And I too am rather familiar with the "hand of god", can't really be avoided re wagon coupling/uncoupling, unless you employ a purely automated system, which I must admit, I've no real desire to do ....
RMweb Gold Sweet pea Posted August 19, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 19, 2019 That’s a very nice rake of wagons, are you keeping them prestige or will you weather them.
Kerizac
Thanks for all your replies gentlemen. All my stock is clean and I keep it that way. I like the weathering stock...only if it's not mine.

Andrew Cockburn
I thought it might be a joke! For I can't ever recall seeing a controller such as that before, and yes, I think a Bachmann version may just prove a bit more reliable!!
HonestTom
Is it weird that I kind of want a controller that looks like that...? 2

Kerizac
And now, back to work ! I drawn this new track plan. I think it's a little better than the first one. What do you think about it ?
RMweb Gold Sweet pea Posted August 21, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 21, 2019 Good layout design, look forward to seeing your build come together now.

Kerizac
I needed several new buffer stops. I used very old Fleischmann buffer stops for a long time (see picture below). They are supposed to be in code 100 like the Peco or Hornby track but it doesn't work. So I removed a few Marklin buffer stops #23977 (Marklin "My World" toy range / £8.00 for a pack of 3) from their fake Plastic ballast to put them on the Peco track. It works very well as you can see on the photo below: 1
