Paul80
Hi There was an article in the current Hornby magazine where they fitted sound to a Hornby loco, the decoder used was a new one (to me) by Doehler & Haass with a quoted price with UK steam sounds at under £70, the spec looked good compared to Zimo and ESU decoders which are £100 plus Anyone used these Doehler & Haass decoders. Any views on them good or bad. Thanks
scoomby
I read the same article in the latest Hornby magazine but when I searched on the internet, I couldn't find a sound project that I was after that could be installed onto a Doehler & Haass sound decoder. £70 is a very good price point for a sound decoder so popularity in the UK may help increase sound project availability. In addition, it might put a bit pressure on the sound decoder pricing from Zimo and ESU which can only be a good thing!
Hamburger
D&H decoders are quite reliable. I even use the 21pin (2 amps) in my gauge 1 and garden railway locos. And, you get a no-worry-warranty. But 70 GBP might not be realistic because the RRP in Germany is already 84 Euro. Wolf
Paul80
The SH10A is showing as €58.90 inc vat on their website which is the one I am interested in being an n-gauge modeller, but yes some are over €
Hamburger
Full sound decoders are named 'SDxxx'. The 'SHxxx" are sound-only modules without motor control, Intended to be connected to e.g. a Lenz motor decoder in order to add sound to an existing decoder installation. Perfect for N gauge are SD10 and SD18 and the brand new SD05.
