toolongtoremember
Here's a link to a video showing what is wrong. It's making a buzzing noise, not turning on but not tripping either.
steve W
I assume the crackle noise is from the Ac adapter power supply. If so it sounds very much like a bad connection or internal arcing of a component. Don't know the Dr5000 so cannot comment further. WIMorrison
I suggest that you give James at DCC Train Automation a call, he is the UK agent for Digikeijs
toolongtoremember
Thanks lads, I think I have figured it out. It used to be able to power up all the accessory decoders, which all have CDUs attached. But it seems the power output has degraded, when I disconnect two of the accessories (all asx-8 with 8 CDUs each), no matter which two, the whole system powers up. It seems to be the initial draw from the CDUs that kills it. I am going out to buy some switches so I can turn on each accessory decoder bank individually so the draw is much less at start up. This is temporary, as I have an exhibition to display at this weekend, then I may keep that and buy a booster (which I can only get via post where I live) for after and a new DR5000. WIMorrison
Alternative would be to purchase a DR5033 and power the accessories from a Bus supplied by the DR5033?
JST
I had a similar problem with my Hornby Elite tripping out on start up. I have 4 ADS8SX units plus a few ADS2SX units. The answer as you have divined is to insert switches and power them up in sequence.
