Let there be light! Just finished lighting up the stairwell, canopy and booking office lights. I’m pretty happy with them except the dimmer switches I bought were useless.

I think I’m going to extend the embankment by the backscene before fitting the waiting room and lampposts. I don’t want to damage them while doing messy modelling.

It does look effective! I am still fettling with it, I’ve replaced the power source so I need to wire all the buildings to that. At the moment I’ve just wired in the stairway and it is a little bright! With the rest of the station lights on the same circuit it should bring the level back to normal.

Recently my attention has been with the road/bridge section. The Bachmann bridge buildings being made up of three parts can look a little disjointed so I’ve polyfilled, sanded and painted them to tie it together. A few more neatening up and scenery tweaks required and I need to sort out something with the backscene as the road currently crashes into a hill!

I’ve been working on a few more odd jobs recently, in particular the running in/station name board. This was 3D printed. The photo naturally shows up all the faults so a little bit more work on them to smarten them up required. I’ve also been working on extending the embankment.

I’ve been getting on and have added some people to the station. Starting to earn some revenue for the GCR!

Next I think I’ll try and make the lighting wiring more permanent. I also need to realign the point motor under the bridge as it hasn’t been throwing very well. Other than that it’s getting on with the embankment (now looking less white and more earthy brown).

The Waiting/Tea Room has now been wired and plonked in place. Just four lights (yes, very Picard!) left to fit to the station area, three lampposts and the signal box. I’ll get them done once I’ve done the grass on the embankment (and the foreground looking at it!).

A little photo to commemorate 100 years since the formation of the Big Four.

I’ve not done as much as I would have liked on the layout last year, I did finally get both running lines down as a complete circuit, it does need the wiring finishing though. I’m hoping to get more layout in the coming weeks.

Over the last few weeks I’ve been working on a 3D printed kit from Martin Kirkby. First time working with a 3D print, a GCR Matchboard All Third. It’s a great kit and I’ve really enjoyed working on it. Next job is glazing and continuing with painting the interior.

Well they should be oval but at present I can’t seem to find any appropriate that will fit. I thought some buffers better than none at all! These round ones are just held on with Tacky Wax so secure but easily replaceable when better alternatives are found. I’ve ordered more Matchboards and a Barnum so I’ll be cracking on with them soon. Eagerly awaiting the 9N as well. Hopefully delivery will be tomorrow.

I have pretty much finished building this GCR weighbridge office kit from Intentio Laser Kits. A very enjoyable build and I am delighted at how it has ended up. A thumb injury (with trip to A&E, X-ray and stitches) meant I’ve been away from modelling for a few weeks and this was a pleasant easing back into it.

Small update, got a hold of one of the new GCR signal cabins from Bachmann. Excellent as always, I’ll have to make my mind up whether to use this one or the other box for the station.

Also decided to get on with the Barnum as it has been sat around for ages with not much happening. Glazing done (a job I don’t enjoy) and then when assembled discovered it to be as bent as a banana. It will take some working out at how to straighten it satisfactorily. Any suggestions welcome!

Did you do the 3d printing of the running in board or are they available somewhere? I’m very much in the market for one after about 17 failed attempts to build one by eye….
