roythebus
I've got a Heljan class 33 OO gauge and tried replacing the couplings with Kadees using the NEM coupler pockets. I know I've got to remove some of the pipework to clear the coupler, but the NEM pocket droops down far too low. Is there an easy fix for this? Tallpaul69
Can't help you re the Kadees, although I will be interested in the answers as I will soon need to fit Kadees to my Heljan 33s. The reason for replying is to warn you to check the bogies on your 33s. I have just found that one bogie on one of mine has rot in the area that fixes to the chassis so that instead of just pivoting, the bogie can move backwards and forwards laterally! Nasty!! Might have to cannibalise two of my three if I can't get the spares. Could always have one as a non working static somewhere on the layout there isn't a Motive Depot.) Butler Henderson
Droppy NEMs are normally resolved by slipping a thin piece of metal (etch cut off) or plastic card between the coupling and the bottom inside of the NEM socket. Always thought the 33s mounts were a touch on the high side akin to some Bachamnn models.
roythebus
On my 33 it's the whole of the pivoting arm that is droopy! Maybe some viagra oil will stiffen it up? I haven't taken the body off the loco yet to investigate, but yes, I'm aware of the need to put a sliver of thin plasticard or metal shim in the NEM boxes. Time to work out how to remove the body! My Western (class52) has the same sort of problems, but the body isn't fixed on that at all.

For these models (eg Bachmann and Hornby EMUs are similar) I have two old credit cards cut in two. You slide one piece in between the body and chassis at the four corners and the body comes off. Best to do it over the workbench as it's all too easy for it to slip through the fingers ....
