could you help me with a problem please?, I have a Hornby class 86 R2290A and I'm trying to find out if they had 3 pole or 5 pole motors as I don't know, would you know and if not how could I find out??, I believe the loco came out in 2002. Thankyou.

I've since found out that they had ringfield motors but that does help any - are they 3, 5 or nothing at all, many thanks.

If the motor pinion (spur) gear has eleven teeth it is three pole,  if ten teeth then five pole.  Another quick way to tell is that the gears in a three pole drive are moulded black,  while the five pole are a silvery grey colour.
