puddin68
could you help me with a problem please?, I have a Hornby class 86 R2290A and I'm trying to find out if they had 3 pole or 5 pole motors as I don't know, would you know and if not how could I find out??, I believe the loco came out in 2002. Thankyou. I've since found out that they had ringfield motors but that does help any - are they 3, 5 or nothing at all, many thanks.
RMweb Gold stovepipe Posted February 13, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 13, 2020 Hello, The Hornby service sheet is here - indicates its a 3-pole motor. https://www.Hornby.com/uk-en/downloads/view/download/item/17 Pepters spares have spare parts e.g. https://www.petersspares.com/Hornby-x8438-x803-3-pole-armature-silver-coloured-commutator-plates-china.ir
GWR-fan
If the motor pinion (spur) gear has eleven teeth it is three pole, if ten teeth then five pole. Another quick way to tell is that the gears in a three pole drive are moulded black, while the five pole are a silvery grey colour.
