Simon Curnock
Hi, so the most basic beginners question of all time. Slowly building up a fleet of O Gauge locos but have yet to buy track. Im looking to keep it simple. Peco set and flexi track i get, but whats the significance of the different types of rails? Which is most common, can they easily be combined? Hopefully someone can be helpful?
RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted March 7, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 7, 2020 Depends on the era of the locos you are buying. Bullhead rail was the norm until the 1950s on all track. Then flatbottom came in and gradually took over for most main running lines. But you still see bullhead today at locations where the train may be moving slowly (platforms) and still plenty of bullhead in sidings. So yes, you can mix the two together.
MarcD
In the UK the use of FB rail was mainly used by industrial/light railways until Joseph said, the 1950's. Marc

Antics: https://anticsonline.uk/N425/N1322/N2158_o-gauge-track-lineside-accessory/index.html carry a good selection of Peco track products.
