cornamuse
Some of the garrison has arrived. Huzzah! Now we can have the one o’clock gun! must get out more… 2 3
Nearholmer
You mentioned scale sea-food earlier. As you are clearly aware, with most things in this scale, Playmobil is the answer. 6
cornamuse
Love them… we have a zoo kicking about, so elephants are a possibility… I’ll have to dig out the dogs and so on too. I was thinking about using bits of their castle too, but, frankly cardboard is more in my price range..

cornamuse
Been working on a small railcar for light traffic days… ip engineering kit, heavily adjusted 3 1
cornamuse
Also available in green. For those days when there aren’t many passengers… Currently forward gear only, which is prototypical. This loco is causing a rethink to a continuous loop…
cornamuse
Lord Charles has decided that the railcar should reflect when it was built, so some discrete cyphers have arrived. Well discrete in the Queen Mary maybe… given that these were feted as “lapel pins” I can only imagine we are due a period of 70s lapels! Genuinely larger than my partially sighted badge. There is a joke there somewhere. Anyway, his lordship approves and has had one of the gunners fit them. 3
cornamuse
In other news, major work is progressing to turn the end to end layout into a continuous run. Partly because I am very happy for the railcar to trundle around with just a basic switch, and partly because I like watching trains run. if I’m honest, my engineering skills are pretty basic, so if something gets moving , I’m loathe to stop it! 4 2
cornamuse
New sky sheet fitted. Needs to be tighter, and I’m thinking about painting clouts on the billows… however a 4’ sky is much better, makes the layout feel less cramped. I can have a taller castle too. Huzzah! 3
cornamuse
Padre is doing a field service for Armistice Day. He’s forgotten his stole though. Very remiss. Based on a relative of one of my choir, the Padre was a missionary, first around Stokesley in a horse drawn wagon, then in Canada and America. Plans are afoot to build him a horse drawn chapel/living wagon 4
cornamuse
The harbour and cliffs are taking shape slowly.. The cliffs are painted cloth glued over polystyrene - paint and glue stiffens it enough. The red boat is destined to become a lifeboat after a serious repaint and remodel. Quite an anachronistic collection of craft. Keep your eyes peeled for the playmobil Roman galley..
Nearholmer
Ah! I took a Playmobil Man-o-War to the charity shop last week; I should have made arrangements for it to sail into your excellent scene.

Their stuff is lovely - I was tempted to use parts of the various castles they sell to build my fort, but decided I should make the buildings match. I’m intending using their animals a lot, though.
cornamuse
A little reminder that I do occasionally make proper pre-grouping stuff. This model is a really slow burner; not been touched for a few years, now. 7
cornamuse
And yes, I decided on a continuous run, with a bridge that swings out of the way I love how far away the far end feels - it is a real journey. It shows how little has been landscaped, and how many random weird instruments I own (actually, I have a LOT more than that ;) )

Must be brand new or a museum looking that smart, but I can’t bear to weather stock! cornamuse
Cliffs drybrushed and with some seaweed. Bollards starting to come together. Beautifully turned by a friend. Some work on His Lordship’s residence, too. 7
cornamuse
A quick coat of paint and a dry brushing, and another tower is completed… very much a product of years making wargaming scenery. The aim is for a convincing (in a Disney castle way) portrayal of a castle, rather than an accurate one 5
cornamuse
A plinth. Made from carving polystyrene, foam board and card. Painted like the castle: years ago, I bought an SM32 steamer in memory of my grandparents. It has sat on a shelf since I converted to g scale. Now it can have a home on a platform, Ffestiniog style: I wish I could regauge her and have live steam on the track again, but at least this is a way to include her in the model.
cornamuse
Castle slowly grows… Some of the Ffestiniog stock out for a run… how much seaweed is enough? Model crabs? Rockpools?
cornamuse
BEHOLD! VOLEHENGE! made from blue polystyrene, carved and painted. Rather warhammer style, really. I think the pink curtain will have to go. The Saxon chapel is maybe 10mm/ft and the Lakeland village is 4mm. I’m hoping to achieve some ultra forced perspective by careful planting of ever smaller trees. 8
cornamuse
Fort Campagnol is slowly getting finished, too. Patchy stonework, as I’m intending ivy on a lot of the castle. Crenellations carved from more blue foam. The main keep just left now.
cornamuse
The distant Lakeland boozah is none other than this; made famous by being illustrated in Jemima Puddleduck, and a jolly good pub to boot. 5 2
