We certainly modified all the points on the club's O gauge layout to remove the reliance on point blade contact to power the frog (not to mention the closure rails). Similarly, I can't see any reason why your autofrog device shouldn't work after all O gauge track is only OO track with bigger rails spaced further apart. I don't know the DCC80 but there's is just a chance that its current handling capabilities could be a limiting factor but I think that's unlikely.
