Hachette Scotsman Boiler to Footplate

Recommended Posts

A bit of an assembly conundrum... If I read instructions correctly, the boiler front mounts to the  footplate with a screw and nut -the nut being inside the boiler.  However, once the smokebox door is fastened in place, how do you disassemble to paint?   Perhaps the nut inside the boiler must be expoxied into place?

Thanks

I took a different route with St Frusqin. To aid painting and maintenance, the footplate, once painted black, was semi permanently fastened to the frames. The boiler is bolted to the cab with a custom made bracket at the rear. At the front, the chimney is grilled out and fitted to a plastic blast pipe. This allows it to be secured Triang style to captive nut on the foot plate.
