My little project is finished, I thought I'd 3d print and paint up a name plate. I had to print it in two halves so I glued it together and filled the gap with milliput. One side out came out a lot nicer than the other as I broke my homemade printer and thought it was about time I upgraded... so the second half was printed on a brand new machinedrew it up in fusion 360 and pai Ted it with a random bottle of brown I had so it's not perfect but I think it looks quite good on the facia
Horsehay Railway Modeller
Today I finally got round to modifying, installing and painting the fence behind the coal sidings. I also made up a few trees from the rest of my box of seafoam. You might also see in the background where I've sculpted a level area for a few cottages or a small village scene
Horsehay Railway Modeller
There won't be any work on the layout for the next two weeks as I'm at the gfs over Christmas (in a bubble). I'm happy with the progress I've made in the past fortnight. I made an order for several wills craftsman kits to keep me busy in between all of the turkey sandwiches. So I will still be able to show some work. This photo shows an overveiw of how this area is coming along as well as some new arrivals. Having mentioned to my parents about a cement train, they kindly bought a load of second hand triang and Hornby cement wagons as a Christmas present. I'll give them a touch up with paint and weathering but I was happily supprised to find they run very well and have metal wheelsets. Horsehay Railway Modeller
I received my order this morning, plenty of work to be done in the next fortnight. I think I'll start simple before I get onto the craftsman kits
Horsehay Railway Modeller
First kit done - a small yard office, in severe need of weathering but I shall wait a while for the paint to completely dry first. I also need to add a light, I don't think I'll add an interior as it will be almost impossible to see by the time I add grime to the window.
Horsehay Railway Modeller
Well a few steam locos have spread coal dust all over this poor old yard office. It should look good next to the goods siding.
whart57
Nicely weathered, but I don't recall hard hats and hi-viz gilets in the 1970s, never mind the 1960s.

Thanks for the note I'll have a look around. I'm sure I can disguise them, I bought them on an impulse as I had a set a few years ago before I broke up my old layout. The next kit is underway!

It stretches rule one. A little for me as I am aiming for 64 ish, and I doubt a branchline would have had them that early. They seem more common later on as I've found this br poster from 67 I had hoped to use them as they featured on one of my old layouts that has long since been dismantled and sold in bits. However I agree they're a little modern so I might cut them about a bit or hide them in a building.
Horsehay Railway Modeller
Another building complete, the goods store. Overall I'm very happy with it. I was going to add an interior but I realised the inside walls have ugly mouldings so I'd need false walls covering them, it's something I can come back to. I've ve painted the wooden floor anyway, however for now the doors are closed. I've also added an led in case someone is working late and has a lamp on (gas or electric) I shall probably wire this separately to the yard lights as I don't think it would be regularly lit. To avoid light leakage I have given the inside a Liberal coat of black acrylic (applied thick enough it also fills gaps) Right, time to hide my mistakes, oops, I mean weather it.
Horsehay Railway Modeller
Ahh that's better. daves been banging on that door with his lump hammer but still no one will open it. I think I will add a wooden goods platform to the right hand side but that's a project for another day 3
Horsehay Railway Modeller
And so the engine shed begins. My first experience of a craftsman kit hopefully not my last. (it depends how much I swear making the two I've already bought )
Horsehay Railway Modeller
Finally got all of the parts cut out and now im slowly going insane scribing all of the stones into the sides of each peice. Hopefully it will turn out well. I want to do an interior but the kit doesn't have any moulded stone Inside. looks like I'm going to have to put false walls in. Would the interior walls be the same single layer of stone blocks or would there be any chance of brick interior walls or wood cladding?
Horsehay Railway Modeller
The walls are getting there but the building seems a little drunk. I will deffinately line the interior with something, it would be a shame to have blank walls for such an open building
Horsehay Railway Modeller
Well for better or worse the kits mostly together. I cut the roof slates a row or two short and had to splice in another section. (I cut them in the middle so the join was well supported in the middle of the roof) hopefully a coat of paint will hide the join. There's alot left to do and that's before I start building an interior. I've left the tank and ventilator off to allow for painting tomorrow. You may notice I've assembled it backwards according to the kit, with the tank at the rear, and haven't added a rear door. This is to more closely match the shed at much Wenlock. I'm not to fussed about exactly modelling it however the least I could do is to put the tank at the right end to match. I'm thinking of painting it in gwr colours but heavily weathering it. I doubt br would have bothered repainting at but all advice is welcome as usual.
Horsehay Railway Modeller
Added ridge tiles, capping stones and gutters and given the roof a base coat of vallejo dark grey Edited December 24, 2020 by Horsehay Railway Modeller

Horsehay Railway Modeller
Working on the water tank. I painted a base coat of rust brown. I then applied sea salt with some water and left it to dry. The top coat can then be applied. At the moment deck tan and a grey I mixed. The salt is then scrubbed off to reveal the rust beneath. More to follow. 5
whart57
I didn't know of this sea salt trick. I'm going to have to give that a go sometime
Horsehay Railway Modeller
Coming together now. I've painted the pattern on the tank and used the airbrush to ad more rust and streaking. I've also added streaking down the side of the shed. The shed has had a bit of dry brushing with deck tan as well as a dusting with a light grey 5
Horsehay Railway Modeller
Well that's the kit finished. I still want to add a separate interior so for now the inside is just airbrushed grey. (the walls aren't actually warped its an optical illusion) I'm quite happy with it now it's all weathered up and painted.
Horsehay Railway Modeller
Probably a daft question. Where would the water go from the water tank. Would there be a separate water crane elsewhere, or some sort of pipe inside the shed?
RMweb Premium Northroader Posted December 26, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 26, 2020 To a separate water crane close by. You wouldn’t want to clear the shed out just to water an engine, and spillage would be a nuisance.
MrWolf
You can get away with either a separate water column, or a swivelling arm from a water column attached below the tank as at Tetbury, if you have a line running beside the shed.
