Hi,

Could somebody please help.

My ESU V5 XL did not come with any instructions and the ESU website does not cover all the wires I have in my O gauge Heljan Warship. The speaker does not fit in the space under the loco, where should I fit it or buy a different one? Would it sound OK in the body above the chassis?

Any help would be great.

Many Thanks.

LegomanBiffo :)

Fitting info supplied.  The Speaker is a 8Ohms fully enclosed large Bass Speaker, this fits in the bodyshell. Another 8Ohms speak can be fitted in the fueltanks IF required,  just keep them in phase.

PM sent as this is now getting messy!

No advice has been received.

Hi Robert

Its not that difficult, honest.

The ESU Wiring Diagram you put on RM Web is really quite straightforward.

The Standard NRMA DCC Wiring colours should be:

Track LH  Black

Trach RH Red

Motor LH Grey

Motor RH Orange

Lighting Common Purple

Front Lights White

Rear Lights Yellow

Sadly Heljan have a habit of ignoring these standards and often get the colours mixed up, but please read below as its fairly straightforward.

The only complication is the Heljan Lighting & Roof fans.    Neil can run through this for you as he is the ‘Specialist’ on Heljan Locos.

6.8.3Wiring diagram Lok Sound 5XL Decoder

Basic Wiring is:

Track/Wheel Pickups Left Hand:      Fit into Left Track Connection      (Please ignore Heljan’s colour coding on these wires)

Track/Wheel Pickups Right Hand:    Fit into Right Track Connection   (Please ignore Heljan’s colour coding on these wires)

### Just make sure the LH pickup wires are together when screwed in, and the same on the RH when screwed in (Two of these will need to be extended  to reach) These soldered joints should be insulated.

Motor Connections Left Hand……Fit to Left Motor Terminal

Motor Connection Right Hand..   Fit to RH Motor Connection

The speaker supplied will fit inside the locomotive, when we fit them we put in two, they have excellent sound quality. A smaller speaker for the fuel tank can be supplied but will not be as good as the one you have.

This speaker needs wiring into  Speaker 1 terminals, one wire in each.

Before turning on the power to test, check all the wiring done so far, making sure there are NO bare wires that can touch and short out anything.

Your loco will now run up and down.

Neil will run through the lighting wiring and adding resistors to protect the LED’s.

Hope this makes this less daunting

Charlie
