dagrizz
This duck is going round in circles. The railway is a secondary line.
Guest Belgian
It looks like everyone's ducked out of this!
dagrizz
Sorry, been away for a few days. It's a well-known line in railway history. If the duck was old enough it may have witnessed some iconic locos being put through their paces.
RMweb Gold Ramblin Rich Posted August 21, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 21, 2011 It's just east of St Helen's Junction station on the Liverpool & Manchester Railway
RMweb Gold Ramblin Rich Posted August 21, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 21, 2011 Next up - sorry no ducks this time: A station on a preserved line. Sounding like saying hello....
RMweb Gold Ramblin Rich Posted August 23, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 23, 2011 I've been a bit devious as my previous "hello" clue relates to a nearby village, not the actual station name... Another clue needed? The preserved line's initials are the same as the line's original owners.
buffalo
Winchcombe on the GWR, the village is Greet: Nick edit: sorry about the hole in the map, looks like my cursor was in the way when I grabbed it.
buffalo
Assuming I haven't been disqualified for using the wrong scale of map in my answer, here is another one. A main line, damp, but no ducks. Nick
buffalo
Time for a clue? It's not all so level around here. The land in the square to the south-east rises sharply to a dominant feature of the local landscape. Nick
dagrizz
Bristol-Exeter line, near Burnham-on-sea. The nearby hill is Brent Knoll.
dagrizz
The 'one square duck' gets around a bit doesn't it? Mind you, it will wait in vain for a passenger train from this location.
dagrizz
This branch line ends about 8 miles east of here at a power station by a river estuary.

RMweb Gold Ramblin Rich Posted August 30, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 30, 2011 The level crossing shown is actually over a passing loop. Here's a google street view of the level crossing - a couple of clues visible...

dagrizz
If I said what the cycleway used to be I'd give the game away. Pun intended. This is the next square to the east.
Bulleidboy
If I said what the cycleway used to be I'd give the game away. Pun intended. This is the next square to the east. It's Rugby station: Another duck that likes to watch mainline trains:
Bulleidboy
Two clues: This stretch of railway has four lines The canal (in SW corner) takes its name from a city to the South East
Bulleidboy
Rather than post the square immediately below this one (which contains the name of the canal), you can do a little bit of work..... The City that the canal is named after has a nameplate from 46240 displayed at its station. Follow the canal in the correct direction and you'll find this lonely duck. Bulleidboy
Four days and no-one's even tried it yet! So, first clue. This railway has been closed but runs trains today. JE North-West of Witton-le-Wear on the Weardale Railway (I do like clues that narrow down the search area): Will post the next one tomorrow.
Bulleidboy
OK, the next square: This is not on a mainline - the square contains a clue to where the branchline leads
