RMweb Gold Mick Bonwick Posted October 2, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 2, 2020 These are artists' acrylic products, so I'd suggest water.
Captain Cuttle
Thanks Mick, so is the Revell Aqua colour range different to these then as I thought acrylic paint was all the same? Regards Alan
RMweb Gold Mick Bonwick Posted October 2, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 2, 2020 (edited) I'm not a chemist, Alan, so I can't give you all the technical details. Acrylic paints for modellers have a different composition to those for artists and those for car manufacturers, and so on. I think that it is the carrier that is different, but it might be the pigment as well. If you thin Revell Aqua (and others) with plain water you are heading for a mess in your airbrush. For that you either need Revell's own acrylic thinners or Ultimate acrylic thinners. The latter will work with all the acrylics that railway (and other) modellers use, even Tamiya who use a different carrier to other manufacturers. Complicated, isn't it? You haven't said what it is that you wish to use your Docrafts acrylic paint on. Is it scenery or a model, painting or just weathering? Edited to add: These comments apply equally to varnish as to paint. Should have made that clear to begin with. RMweb Gold ikcdab Posted October 2, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 2, 2020 I use a 30/70 IPA/water mix with great success.
