Roger.s
I am going to try using 3D printed arches to support the trackbed and I think that I can easily make this strong enough. It looks as though I will have to have a mixture of occupied/unoccupied arches and I shall continue to look for period photos so I can get a reasonable mix. Many thanks to all who replied. RMweb Gold phil_sutters Posted January 15, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 15, 2021 Why do you need fillets when the walls supporting the arches shown above are at least 4 or 5 ft thick - 8 to 10mm? Are some of your open arches completely open at the far side? Any with any walls across openings will add to the strength. If you add parapet walls made from solid wood, glued to your 2mm track bed you will have a strong channel shaped structure.
RMweb Gold phil_sutters Posted January 15, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 15, 2021 (edited) Here are a couple more photos of arches, much as they would have been in pre-grouping times Chorley Manchester & Fairfield St Manchester https://chorltonhistory.blogspot.com/2013/04/of-railway-arches-and-neglected-places.html Edited January 15, 2021 by phil_sutters photo duplication
