Folk might be interested in my build of No 5. I describe it in my loco build thread.

I bought one of these, but have yet to start it- the chassis mods are quite frankly beyond me.  I have, however, discovered that a 57xx chassis fits in quite well, and the mod to put a radial wheel on the back would be rather less than the mods to the 56xx.

That one above looks lovely.

Thanks all. John you've done a magnificent job of that loco, well done.

I think it's probably a good time that I cut another chassis, so that I can show a simplified approach, that also minimises the risk to any of the fitted parts. I'll follow up with the steps in due course.

Thanks.

Paul.

Paul. It might be worth a look at the Bachmann spares site- when I was there last they had a fair selection for the 56xx chassis, including a bare chassis block, wheel sets amd motor all as separate bits.

to be homest, if I was doing this again, I'd look at building a Comet chassis.

Do you have a dodgy 29 tucked away anywhere?

All the best.

John

And reasonably priced too.

I've got a few 56xx already, as I intended to make more than 1 no.5, but a spare block is always handy, especially for mod colour coding.

Thanks!
