ManofKent
I'm not sure of the best section to ask this in, but when was steel dockside walling first widely used in the UK? 1950's or much earlier? Thanks
Nick Holliday
Not quite sure if this is what you mean, but according to a paper presented to the Institute of Civil Engineers "The History and Development of Sheet Piling" It would seem that effective steel sheet piling was available from the turn of the 20th century. I don't know how soon it would have been adopted for UK harbour work, but I wouldn't be surprised if it featured in work associated with the Great War, if not much earlier. (I suspect the date regarding wrought iron piles should have been mid 1800s!) 1
