Paul_sterling
I've created this thread to help the RMweb members who have kindly purchased an NCB Meteor from me, to highlight what needs to be cropped off the donor Hornby Austerity chassis. IMG_20210524_094442 by Paul Sterling, on Flickr Remove the cab fixing rear screws (located under the running plate IMG_20210524_094533 by Paul Sterling, on Flickr Remove the chimney retaining screw IMG_20210524_094555 by Paul Sterling, on Flickr remove the cab and upper body, then remove the two weight retaining screws. IMG_20210524_094702 by Paul Sterling, on Flickr IMG_20210524_094743 by Paul Sterling, on Flickr The rear of the body needs to be chambered, approximately 5mm long x 4mm deep. IMG_20210524_094755 IMG_20210524_094955 IMG_20210524_094931 IMG_20210524_094944 The outer edge of the boiler/saddle tank and the running plate below it, needs to be narrowed to 27mm or less. IMG_20210524_094803 These bosses next to the motor need to be filed flat to the rest of the top surface (i.e. the rear, metal, motor keeper plate). The front end IMG_20210524_094825 IMG_20210524_094903 At the front, the smokebox and boiler need to be cut back to just after the tank step pocket, 20mm back from the top edge of the cast chassis, and 12mm back from the smokebox front face. The removal needs to be taken down as far the the threaded plastic insert just behind the smokebox front face (this area is retained as that screw is replaced wit the front mounting screw of the bodyshell). IMG_20210524_094836 Two pips on top of the front sandboxes need filing flat. IMG_20210524_094844 the front end needs cutting down by 2mm deep, right up to the smokebox front face IMG_20210524_095021 by Paul Sterling, on Flickr The Rear IMG_20210524_095021 by Paul Sterling, on Flickr The entire rear running plate is cut off just in front of the moulding which retains the motor wiring (i just used snips for this task) IMG_20210524_095028 by Paul Sterling, on Flickr The square section the wires go through can be left in place, I made clearance for it in the shell. Thanks, Paul.
