Zimo and older models

Recommended Posts

From my prior posts some of you may have noticed that I’ve become a bit of a Zimo fanatic, well I just chalked up another success

Back in the day when I used to write on DCC for Model Rail, I converted some Thomas locos to DCC just to show it could be done. Though they never really ran as well as I’d hoped. They kind of still ran badly, but under DCC control!

Well, last night I converted Toby the Tram engine to a Zimo decoder with an SC68 supercap. The difference is astounding. Even without the supercap, the decoder has smoothed out the drive no end. And with the supercap it’s as sure-footed as anything with a much longer wheelbase & a myriad of pickups

So, if you have older locos that don’t run as well as you’d like under DCC, spend a moment to look at Zimo decoders. After all, they start at only £20. And there’s no faffing about with cvs to get decent slow speed running either. Don’t know how they do it - it’s like magic
