RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted December 14, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 14, 2021 From the timetable change, effectively yesterday, for many services, GWR was supposed to be reintroducing a 30 minute interval service for Paddington - Cardiff. But there was no sign of it west of Swindon yesterday and the only potential sign of it at Swindon was a Class 387 working a Swindon - Paddington service (which presumably is part of a truncated Cardiff - Paddington train; possibly running for training purposes?). At present the big slip east of Brinkworth, where major restorative/preventative work is well underway, has forced the introduction of a single line railway over the Down line on the 10 mile stretch between Wootton Bassett West and Hullavington. Apart from some minor retimings of the basic service it looks as if the extra trains, which will be worked by 387s, have had to be abandoned due to lack of line capacity. But an excellent advert for reversible signalling. 9
