Bachmann 66117 sound fitted and Z21 black problems

Just purchased Bachmann 66117 sound fitted, Loksound 5. Set up on rolling road using Z21 Black, all lighting and sound functions work but no motion forward or reverse.

What is really strange tried the decoder set up using same rolling road and DCC++ and JMRI decoder pro, all functions and motion work.??

Reset decoder from default adress 3 to 6617 exactly the same pk with JMRI decoder pro, no motion with Z21?

Anyone have any ideas.

Yes added loco in railed vehicles, I have also run updater and updated the Z21 firmware.

Tried to download the latest version of the app, but in typicaly apple way, it says my old I pad doesnt support the latest version. Have however downloaded to my I phone so will try this later.

Thanks for the reply Sam.

OK the loco is ticked as active, have tried speed display in both mph, and km/p. Set to 128 speed steps.Have downloaded latest version of the app to I Phone.

Exactly the same all function keys work, but no response to throttle. With the sound on the engine sound does increas with throttle but no movement. There is just a low growl from the motor?

If the Z21 will run other locos it’s suggests a decoder or programming glitch. Run another loco as the lights etc being on confirms track power.
I’d go back and test it in decoder pro or in dc as a growl may mean it’s locked up mechanically or a wire came loose. Also if that doesn’t work try it with a low address number and see if it’s a glitch in the number?

Hi Paul

As i said originally the loco works in JMRI using decoder pro, all functions and throttle. Its just with the Z21 im having problems. I did try it with its default short address  (3) and using 6619 as a long address, no change with the Z21.

Im just about out of ideas now.

Clutching at straws here but I had allready checked the speed curve profile for both the 66 that works and the one that doesnt in decoder pro, they are the same. I tried resetting CV3 and 4 from 50 and 90 to 25 to see if there is a huge delay in acceleration on the chip. Made no difference.

The only difference between the locos is the chips, V4 works V5 doesnt. ??

This is more straws, but have you double checked the entry in the Z21.  Things like the type of protocol in use (I think the Z21 supports Marklin as well as DCC, and the LokSound decoder supports both, so you could be in a pickle over protocols).

Other than that, suggest you renumber the problem loco on the programming track, then re-enter into the Z21, and does that work ?

Have you tried the Z21 app on a phone/ tablet other than Apple?  If you are using DecoderPro with you Z21, and your loc is working with out a problem with it, then your app is the problem.  From other post on this forum it seems Apple doesn't always like to play nicely with the rest.

Yes have tried the earlier app, on the I Pad, and the later app, on the I Phone. Dont have any Android devices to try. I would have thought it being the app, other than 66040 sound fitted loco works fine on both the Z21 and JMRI.

Maybe a truly daft idea but the Z21 will accept different protocols. To avoid confusion I disactivate the Märklin and Motorola protocols etc plus setting the the chip to DCC only (do not accept DC). Personally I have fitted ESU chips in all my locos except one* which I initially gave to a shop to chip - the turnip put it in upside down so of course it wouldn't run but there were no lights either.

* Apart from aTillig tram where Tillig insisted on their buddies Uhlenbrock decoder, an utter pain and when I tried an ESU nothing, but nothing, worked. Back to the Uhlenbrock then RTFM for the chip and the tram (the secret code for the interior lights is in the tram instructions, not the chip!).

Thanks to everyone who replied, I gave up with this in the end. Contacted retailer, Derails they aranged a painless return and replaced 66117 with 66100, which worked fine on JMRI and Z21.

So no idea what the problem was. But I must thank Derails and there excellent customer service.

So looks like it was a faulty chip then?
