This year, we are pleased to have the Peco stand at our exhibition.

In addition, Steve Flint (editor of the Railway Modeller magazine, and judge on Channel 5's Great Model Railway Challenge ) has agreed to judge our 'Best Layout' this year.

A couple of us from our club will be there supporting Waalhaven (which features in this month's continental Modeller). Looks to be a good show...looking forward to it!

A plethora of little layouts so far! And with Wallhaven and my own Test Valley sidings that is two single turnout layouts!  Looking forward to seeing this layout, like me I believe that the builder/owner is a former BNHMRS member?

To mark the 50th anniversary of the Basingstoke & North Hants MRS, we have commissioned the production of some special, limited edition, private owner wagons as actually used by a former Basingstoke business. We are hoping to receive them in time to make them available at the show.

These are 5 plank open wagons in both OO and N scale, and there will be three different running numbers for each scale.

More details to follow.

Not all the layouts will be micro sized. Here is a slightly larger layout that is currently expected to be attending:

Also on display at our show will be a set of modules created by our junior members, aged 8-17. Each junior member is building their own module. The modules should fit together in any order, with a common 'main line'. Guidance and advice is provided by more experienced club members.

DCC is used to control the trains, points and lamps, all from mobile phones.

As a follow-up from the exhibition, the Basingstoke & North Hants Model Railway Society will also have another 'Open Day' at our clubrooms on 8th April 2022. We will have a number of club layouts, and members' layouts on show or to talk about, plus a couple of local traders normally attend.

Entrance is free (children must be accompanied by adults) and light refreshments will be available.

'What3Words' location is ///stocks.shock.charm

Ample free parking, or Stagecoach Bus No4 runs hourly from the station to Kendal Gardens.

This year we are experimenting with a virtual show guide. We will have paper handouts showing the floor plans of the three halls, but there will be a QR Code on the handout. Scan that with a 'smart' phone, and you will be taken to a website where you can see details and photos of the layouts.

If this proves a success, we may expand this next year, possibly with QR Codes displayed on each layout taking you directly to the details of that layout.

Have you thought about also getting the QR code put on each layout somewhere? Think this is a great idea and will happily use it on Sunday.

If it all works OK this weekend, we will look at expanding it next year, with a QR code on each layout.

I am going to stray away from the main topic , please bear with me.

In the 70`s and early 80`s , I lived in Phoenix park terrace , that in turn overlooked the north side of Basingstoke station.

Plus the fact i used to work in a newspaper wholesalers , we would meet the 03:30 paper train , usually pulled by a 73 , or a 33 , on some mornings we heard the freightliner coming down the Reading branch , pulled by a 47 , now and again one of the container wagons would have a "flat" tyre , making a bang bang bang , which could be heard several miles away , a guy who worked on the station , occasionally he would take empty stock to the barton rd sidings ( all 3rd rail) , once he had upset the signalman who set the points to sent the empty stock up the Reading branch , which in those days  was non electrified , after some time an 08 was sent to pull the stock back to the main line , he never asked again...lol

Do you have any more information on the Sundown Lane layout that is scheduled to attend? Apparently it is an EM gauge layout set in 1973s SW London but is not a layout I've come across before.

This is a new layout built by a former club member. It has a small yard for NCL traffic, some third rail for local passenger workings, plus some cross-London transfers. That is all I know of it.

It seems the real railways are not being helpful this weekend with closures around Woking. Please check if planning to come by train from Waterloo. Trains from the west and down from Reading should be running fairly normally.
