sncf231e
GILS 0 gauge trains from Belgium run on 3-rail isolated track; In the Gils system power between the right rail and the third (middle) rail moves the locomotive forward, while power to the left rail and the third rail makes it running backward. Of course, tender and rolling stock wheels have to be isolated. My garden layout has 3-rail isolated 0 gauge track, so I ran some GILS trains this afternoon. Gérard Gilles started to make toy trains with his family in the early 1940ies. The 0 gauge trains shown here are from the early fifties: Regards Fred
goldfish
Thank you Fred, another excellent video. The automatic couplers look interesting, any chance of a closer look? Regards, Michael
sncf231e
Hello Michael, The Gils couplers are very large and simple. They only couple in one direction. Gils made an uncoupling rail with a ramp, but that I have not included in my garden railway. So the uncoupling is just a video trick . By pushing cars or locomotives together they couple. goldfish
Thank for the closeup Fred. The Gils trains look to be something out of the ordinary, and quite unique. Regards, Michael
