lather
Over the years, various companies have had oil terminals at Colwick, just to the east of Nottingham. Besides the long-lived Total terminal, there's also been ones for Shell, Esso and Petrofina. One thing I can't seem to find anywhere is info on what types of fuel they handled. Many years ago (1980s and 1990s), I used to go to Nottingham by train a lot, and remember seeing trains of very grubby TEAs rumbling through the station. Given the colour, I assume that they were Class B tanks, but most of them were so filthy they could well have been Class A ones in need of a really good wash! So, does anyone know just what fuels the various terminals used to handle? Were they all Class B for stuff like heating oil, or did they also handle Class A products like petrol and diesel too? And what about LPG?
BR traction instructor
The Paul Shannon Freight Only series ought to offer at least an insight. I’ve checked my David Ratcliffe consists book but to no avail. BeRTIe
Mike 84C
I used to load out of Total and Texaco at Colwick and they both supplied class A & B fuels. I worked for a Total distributor ( Chandlers Oil & Gas in Grantham) from about 2000 till 2006/7 and the Total terminal carried on for a number of years after I left.
