Battery help please :-)

Hi,

I ran Ride On electric locos years ago and used car batteries and leisure batteries, I always managed to kill them after a few years.

A few years ago I bought a pair of 12v Yuasa REC36-12i AGM batteries to run some LED lights, these worked well, but sadly since covid (2 1/2 years) I've let them go so flat they are totally trashed. I got to thinking they would have been great for 5" gauge and now I've seen that there are many types of 12v batteries these days that may be better than the old car battery:-   Flooded, Sealed, VRLA, AGM, GEL, AGM, stop go, lithium etc

Does anybody know of the best 'go to' battery type now used to run 5" gauge and what sort of amp hour is common (I know it depends on many things, but what is a minimum?)

Thanks.

Mobility scooter batteries seem to be the thing for small 7.25" gauge locos.

2 x 12v (for 24v) 33 Ah batteries such as SLK Power  NP33-12

3 x 12v (for 36v)  15-18Ah batteries such as Ultramax  NP18-12.

These combinations are used in the b/e version of Colin Edmondson's 'Scamp' loco and are taken from the instructions for the Mk 3 loco.

Obviously you need to get a battery that will fit into a 5" gauge loco if that is what you are still working with.
