Northants PC
Hello and welcome to my first model railway project, in the form of Gladstone Road Model Railway. The layout features a station, nuclear flask transfer terminal and branch line leading off to a quarry at the end of the line. The layout consists of 6 5ft x 18inch boards and is DCC controlled throughout. The model will be long term project with real contruction work starting after xmas. The inperation for the model was my father who is part way through his own model railway based in the 60's. I have copied his idea of long thin managable boards and full DCC control with all sound locomotives. I have a few locomotives at the moment with somemore on the way around November/December time. The current fleet include Bachmann Class 37's 37510 & 688 in DRS and 37670 in DBS colours, joining this trio at the end of the year will be 37713 & 37884 in Loadhaul along with 37702 in Transrail Freight and finally 37798 in Mainline Freight Aircraft blue. My main wagon fleet will be a rake (five vehicles) of Railtrack Autoballaster wagons and two or three FNA Flask Carrier wagons. In addition to these I will have a EMU in the form of a London Midland Class 350 Desiro running from a 3rd Conductor Rail or AC OHL not decided yet, but with the multiple board joints the DC 3rd rail might be a better option. With the boards being so thin at 18inches I have decided less is more and want the railway to be a sub feature of its surroundings which will start with a town area running down and around the flask terminal and on to the station area, where upon the railways reduction from two to single line the senary will become more countryfied until the quarry area and the end of the line. I hope to have a semi working quarry stone loader that will need some further thought from the old man as to how we can make one work. I will post some pictures once I worked out how to do it All the best. Northant PC.

Northants PC
I did some more CAD work on the plan today (I love restdays with the wife and kids at school ! ) I completed a 1:1 scale print out with a few minor alternations to the overall plan. But I still retain a Flask Terminal loop with capcity for x2 locomotives and x3 FNA flask carriers, along with a station able to hold a four vehicle EMU or DMU plus a quarry with capcity to hold a x5 vehicle rake of Autoballasters. I did however have to scale down the 1:1 printout as Im still getting to grips with the software, when I'd printed out all 76 pages of track I realised I'd have a layout of some 51ft in length . Ive scaled it back to a more manageable 36ft now . A couple of pictures from the CAD printout with my DBS 37 posing on the Quarry and standing in for the DRS duo on the Flask Terminal. The DRS pair at currently in the care of my father down in Cymru. 37670 on the quarry headshunt: Standing for the absent DRS pair on the flask terminal, the templates behind are for the three FNA wagons: At the head of a five vehicle rake of (template) autoballasters: The full 1:1 scale CAD printout in place, same as before the top stripe is the start of the layout (from the fiddle yard), and the bottom is the continuation: Another bit of good news is that Homebase sell the top board I need at a cheaper price than B&Q, plus the sheets come in 2ft x 6ft size so for my whole layout I only need x3 sheets instead of the six I previously thought quids in!. For this project I intend to use much deep frame work to allow a rail over road bridge to be contructed on the quarry branch, the whole trackbed will be lifted about 1 or 2 inches off the top board to take the flatness out of the project something Ive not tried before. All in all a good rest day, back to work tomorrow Northants PC - Marc.
