Great Western / BR Peckett loco information

Staffordshire

Recommended Posts

    Hello,

I wonder if anyone can help answer a  question regarding certain GWR/BR Peckett locos ?

           Are  Loco's  1143  &  1145  originally Swansea Harbour Trust  and  the Powlesland  &  Mason  locos 1150 -1152,

the same type/model  of Peckett ?

If they were the same type,  were there any recognisable differences between the  two  Company's locos ?

I am trying to model in 4mm an accurate mode of 1151,   any help greatly appreciated.

       Thanks, Ian

1143 was formerly GWR 968 and ex SHT No.12. Peckett 1105/1908

1145 was formerly GWR 1098 and ex SHT No.18, Peckett 1522/1918

1150 was formerly GWR 696 and ex P&M No.3, Peckett 1328/1913

1151 was formerly GWR 779 and ex P&M No.4, Peckett 1449/1916

1152 was formerly GWR 935 and ex P&M No.12, Peckett 1179/1912

.

All were Peckett Class 'E' 0-4-0ST.

.

I believe Swindon issued Dia. Y to cover them all.

.

1152 appears to have had an open cab rear, compared to the others.

If I read RCTS correctly I think they all started life as Peckett's  E Class. Once they were with the GWR they were all classed under the same diagram, but over time there were minor differences - not all received GWR chimney's for instance. So by the time they got to BR there were certainly variations, but I don't think the variations related to who owned them 30 years before.

13 minutes ago, Wickham Green too said:

1143 seems to have retained its original safety valves through however many visits to Swindon or Caerphilly !

.

And what appears to be Salter valves.

.

That's why I modelled it, using a Springside 'Peckett' as a basis.

Thank you all for the information, just what I required, the photos from  br2975  are such a modelling aid.

Roll on 1151, although 1152 with the open cab back is tempting !!

If there are any more photos out there, would love to see them ...

    Cheers, Ian
