Work on my ‘grand plan’ layout Abermelyn is paused currently. See:

https://www.rmweb.co.uk/topic/81878-melyn-valley-railway/page/18/

To give myself some experience of the scenic aspects of layout building in a smaller space to experiment in, have decided to build a small cameo narrow gauge layout. It would also have the benefit of giving me something to take along to our Mickleover Modelling Days as Abermelyn is too bulky for that.

Looking great Andrew 😃 The magic train conversion is especially successful it took me a second look to spot the origin!

Thank you, glad you like it. Made it when my mates were busy Bachmann On30 bashing as something different. Shall take some more photos and write up about what I did to it in a blog post when I get chance if you’d like?

Yes please, pop a link to the blog in if you would as otherwise it won’t pop up automatically.

Please accept my apologies Paul, in the hiatus that was the first half of this year I completely forgot about this. Shall take some photos and get the Magic Train blogpost written up asap.

It’s been a while. However…. Making some decent progress (by my standards) with ’Wheal Ponder’ now. The main clay dry buildings that form the heart of the layout are now complete and add some welcome colour to what was a rather bland palette.

Plenty more detail (and more photos) on the blog: https://melynvalleyrailway.blogspot.com/2023/09/the-clay-dry.html?m=1

Splendid, thanks for the link that’s looking very nice indeed.

Thank you, I’m rather pleased with how it’s coming together. Though soon I’ll have to move out of my comfort zone into the rest of the scenery which will give me a good challenge!

In the meantime, here’s the Magic Train conversion blog post I promised you months ago:

Cheers,

Andrew

Having finished the linhay buildings, there was a little lull in modelling (and a tidy of my desk) as is often the case after I’ve completed a model.

After a week in Wales driving steam engines… https://melynvalleyrailway.blogspot.com/2023/10/steam-engine-therapy.html?m=1

And a visit into the neighbouring Dulas valley to admire their new Falcon….

Since returning home I’ve got back to the modelling desk. The warm weather for October saw me getting the spray paints out as a good opportunity to paint the Iconic Rail Corris carriage kits before the colder winter weather comes in and I return to the layout. Having chosen a suitably non-Corris colour, this evening has seen a start on the lining transfers….

First results are rather pleasing.

There’s a further update on the blog about lining the carriages. However, this week I have mostly been

distracted by this….

Surprised I haven’t seen more reviews of these. Have written some waffle / nonsense / review over on my blog should anyone want to read it. From the angle of a 7mm narrow gauge modeller rather than a serial box opener…

Been a while since I posted anything on here. Didn’t have the most productive of autumns modelling wise, having a nasty viral cough thing for the month of December didn’t help either.

But a good break over Christmas (being in a very wet Welsh coast for ten days is a great way to switch off and recharge the batteries) has seen me start the new year with a fresh bout of modelling.

The Corris carriages have been

completed and now It’s back on to the layout. I’ve told myself I’m not doing any more rolling stock til the scenery is done. Will see how long that lasts…

The Mickleover modelling day has proved a welcome boost to

productivity. The problematic three way point has been replaced and all the associated adjacent track work has been refitted and connected to the wiring. So back to where we were before, but with added reliability!

More on that and an update on Wheal Ponder and Elsbridge for those interested can be found on the blog.

Going from none to two layouts available to play with is quite an improvement!

‘Annabel was pleased that “we are going to look after it for him.” ‘

That’s a great blog entry, having fun together and Annabel’s comment made me smile, lovely that she remembers him like that, I can just hear her saying it 👍

Thank you, yes, wasn’t sure how well she’d remember Neil but I’m pleased that she does. Operating the layouts together was fun and Annabel is starting to be pretty accomplished with the DC control on my ng layout that it wasn’t long before I was just telling her which points to operate. Reckon she will soon be on to the DCC Powercab and mastering that.

Cheers,

Andrew

It’s amazing what the challenge of a deadline can do to banish procrastination and replace it with a whole load of ‘getting the hell on with it’.

Posted an update on the layout three days ago on the blog:

https://melynvalleyrailway.blogspot.com/2024/05/manic-may.html?m=1#more

It’s already a little dated as the last week has seen the greenery coming on at a great rate of knots. Today’s view is this one. Shall post another blog update once the greenery is closer to completion.

No Mow May

Anyway, now that my daughter is asleep, back into the attic I go. Have a meadow to sow…
