GDR
Any idea where I could find that info? Looking for rough guess of what a 12 mile trip along my branchline would've cost [Single - Dinsdale to Barnstoneworth].
Il Grifone
According to this, fares in the 1930s were 1½d a mile (presumably adult (over 14) and third class), so 1/6d. https://blog.railwaymuseum.org.uk/just-the-ticket/ Edited November 13, 2022 by Il Grifone
Hibelroad
Train travel must have been pricey in the 30s, I remember an off peak second class return Macclesfield to Manchester was 6/- in 1968 so that was only 2d a mile 30 to 40 years later. andyman7
1968 was the first year the British Rail started using selective pricing, so from that year ordinary (as opposed to excursion) journeys were not always prices on route mileage. This was done so ensure that journey prices were comparative to rival means where rail had an opportunity to get market share; it also reflected the removal of so much track mileage in the 60s, ensuring that a journey between points that may have become further apart in rail miles terms due to route closures didn't necessarily also become more expensive.

The full price would have been dearer. There was a considerable reduction for off peak returns. According to my link, full price was 2½d a mile. Somehow I recall 3d, but it was quite a while ago. GDR
Thanks everyone for the info! Have also found out that in some places the first service of the day at daft-o-clock was the local shunter with geriatric van and coach to take a workmen-only train at cut price [subsidised by the workplace?]. This would return to the BLT with the day's newspapers.

Or, to give it a little context, about the cost of three pints of local beer.

It's definitely a place to come back from. I've seen the video, "Golden Gordon" one of my all time favourites.
