I have a pair of Hornby Collett suburbans ( brake and composite ) which look great behind my Bachman small prairie but I want remove the first class numbers on the composite to give it a more prototypical branch line look . Any suggestions how I can do this without damaging the coach body ?
Thanks in advance.

There were a small number of branches which were one class [i.e. third only] because they were auto worked, and a small number that were one class but not auto worked. Most had some sort of provision for first class travellers, whether BT+C or BCK+TK or BT+C+BT, or BC+BC {the classic "B set", which not every branch used by any means}, etc., etc., depending on the amount of passenger traffic. I suggest that BT+C is actually probably  'more prototypical' [I'm assuming you are not modelling an actual prototype]. Another thing to look at is that a Composite will tend to look wrong converted to a Third, since the first class compartments are commonly wider...
