In the western world monorail systems tend to be associated with theme parks and tourist resorts (ditto in Singapore, with the Sentosa link from Vivocity) but in parts of Asia they are genuine public transport systems. The Chinese seem to be very taken with them, and the Tokyo monorail has given good service for many decades.

Static display, no idea how difficult it would be to motorize, they do track sections. For anyone visiting Tokyo, the monorail is my preferred way to get from Haneda airport into the city.
