My mistake — I forgot that Ashburton ever had trains at it in the preservation era. The extemporised coaling facility should have been a clue. Though the colour in the photo does still look a bit "off" — almost as if it has been colourised.

Many of my slides from that era have faded as that one appears to have done. Once scanned with Vuescan they needed a final tweek in Lightroom

Until it meets a curve. Been there, done that and had to fetch a locomotive to shift it, and it was an empty bogie wagon with roller bearings.
