Peter749
I have had a Roco Glaskasten on my shelf for some time and I want to fit it with a DCC chip. https://www.roco.cc/ren/products/locomotives/steam-locomotives/43353-br-983-steam-locomotive-of-drg.html From the info on the website and the box its fitted with a NEM 652 plug - the standard 8 pin socket. The loco was second hand and did not have any instructions but it runs ok in DC mode. There is a pdf download of the parts but I cannot work out where the socket is or how to get to it? Has anyone fitted this loco with a chip? Thanks Peter 43353_8979.pdf
RMweb Premium Ian Morgan Posted May 30, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 30, 2023 It looks like it is a pre-DCC Ready version of the model, if connector (9) is not a standard 6 pin socket (the scan resolution is not good enough to see). It might be possible to get a replacement PCB (item 22) that has the decoder socket, but there is no guarantee that there weren't other design changes made to enable fitting a decoder. You may have to resort to fitting a wired decoder

friscopete
I think you have to do it the hard way and even machine a space tor it unless you want it sticking up into the cab ..there is an article out there somewhere but I took the easy way out and sold it .
michl080
Hi there, Hans-Peter Pfeiffer has a web site that describes how to put Decoders into pre-DCC-locos. See here for details about the Glaskasten. VERY valuable source of information, not only for the Glaskasten. Michael
