RMweb Gold zr2498 Posted July 14, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 14, 2023 (edited) Today I have installed DCC sound to a Heljan Falcon. The sound decoder (ESU Loksound V5), and the speakers are from Roads & Rails The two speakers 4ohms, 25 X 25 X 7 Megabase have been mounted on platforms at either end, and positioned to avoid plastic projections in the roof of the body. To clear a pivot on the the bogie, each platform was increased in height by 20mm by adding styrene strip underneath, on each side to give the required clearance. The platform assemblies were attached to the chassis via black tack (keeping it a thin layer). The speakers were connected in series giving 8 ohms total load. The decoder was fastened to the PC board via heat resistant kapton tape. Speakers were mounted on the platforms, again using a very thin layer of black tack to keep the total height to a minimum. Sounds good. This is not my install, but a link to Richard's demo installation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aqwql2Ctc_Y&t=10s Edited August 1, 2023 by zr2498 A0nther 2 loco sound projects 3

RMweb Gold zr2498 Posted August 1, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 1, 2023 Another Heljan Locomotive sound project. This time the Lion. Similar to the Falcon, but the 30mm X 25mm platforms did not need to be raised to clear the bogie pivots. The sound decoder (ESU Loksound V5), from Wheeltappers and the speakers are from Roads & Rails The two speakers 6ohms (thanks Charlie for the correction), 25 X 25 X 7 Megabase are connected in series. The platform assemblies were attached to the chassis via black tack (keeping it a thin layer). Speakers were mounted on the platforms, again using a very thin layer of black tack to keep the total height to a minimum. A great sound, and relatively easy installation Here is a demo. Not my installation but from the Wheeltappers web site https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_5gxXqNVDc
