cypherman
Hi all, Can any one tell me how to get into these 2 Bachmann engines. A V1 and a V2. They run very nicely but they have just come out of a box after 20 years in storage and I would like to lubricate more than just the running gear. 34theletterbetweenB&D
Tip the first. These will have split chassis mechanisms. If they run well, leave alone. Tip the second. Treat them gently, as essential plastic parts of the mechanism construction become fragile over time. Tip the third. They will let you know when they need attention. Both bodies attach alike. There's a forward projection from the keeper plate at the front of the chassis, which fits into a slot underneath the smokebox On the V1 there is a crosshead screw on the centreline under the middle of the cab, remove this single screw and the mechanism hinges down. On the V2 there is a crosshead screw on the centreline under the rear of the cab, slightly shift the rear truck to one side to access it, remove this single screw and the mechanism hinges down.
34theletterbetweenB&D
Might be handy in future if you don't have the diagrams Bachmann provided: https://www.lendonsmodelshop.co.uk/pdf/Bachmann OO Service Sheets/2-6-2 V1-3.pdf The V2 is constructed on the same generic scheme
