DCB
I found an old Hornby 2721 pannier with the SSPP chassis, Mk7 motor, sprung rear axle, traction tyres probably Margate made well hidden on Father in Laws spare loco shelf. It had a broken pick up strip but a quick motor change and the 2721 ran quite sweetly but when presented with a train ( 7 X Hornby Mk1s) it lifted its front wheels and derailed. Even on straight track. Not wishing to leave it as a non runner I duly wasted considerable time on it instead of doing something useful, and found I could restrict the axle travel and stop the front wheels lifting by jamming a mutilated 00 fishplate over the springs . The ends chopped off , the sides spread and the bottom dented in it slips over the springs and allows only circa 1mm travel. Performance is much the same on level track but it no longer derails when presented with a train. And it's on eBay £10 plus p+p...
