Folly Lane is based somewhere in the Southern Region – Wessex, Sussex or Kent but loosely based upon Halsmere with aggregate yard next to the station with working level crossing & signals with wide range of stock and interesting running options using DCC system. Built by Jason Hannant and sold to a small group from the Beckenham & West Wickham MRC in July 2023.

Since July, we've started to work on the layout, of which one of the first jobs, was making up a new pair of wires for the Level Crossing. This was an easy fix, with the work being done in under half an hour. The next set of jobs, was reprogramming the points for use on the Lenz system. This was a little bit tedious, but it paid off, and after reprogramming all of the point motors, we were able to run some trains. More updates will come as we get the layout up and work on it. It's first official outing under new ownership is the Bognor Regis show in January next year! For now, here's some photos from Sunday's working session.

Nice - however I note you have placed yellow clamp lock covers on top of sleepers!

As with point machines the operating mechanism goes between sleepers and thats where the yellow covers* need to go

See here... Kj1uYLbI4fAWk7YrBiG1YoB6A6udetXMhRzDc=&r

* or the sticky outy bits of Point machines as seen here... 270210_2_jch.jpg&ehk=vD4X55ndRkhXbUQBlGi

Also not sure why there seems to be a gate wheel lurking inside your signal box when its not next to a level crossing...

But overall these are minor observations from someone whose business is signalling equipment and as i said at the beginning, its a very nice layout you have there.

Morning All!

We're planning on doing some work to the layout next Wednesday, clearing off parts of our job list. The two main things will be pairing up two of the boards to ease loading, and fixing up some of the track alignment in the fiddle yard, including renewing a whole section that had come away from the sleepers on one side!

Once these are done, we aim to have a little play and get accustomed to how we're going to be showcasing it at exhibitions!

Photo updates to come next week!

With just under a fortnight till the layouts first show of the year at Bognor, we decided to bring the layout to our clubroom lastnight during a club night to make some minor track repairs and fit suppressors to the undersides of two of the boards. We also took the opportunity to fit working check rails on one of the joints that has been notorious for causing stock to derail every time we've had the layout up. These have proved to be very effective, and we are planning to now fit these across all of the FY joints.20240104_205430.jpg.8b39ee3f568c65bec2b3af5499da6c34.jpg

With these fitted, we have negated any chances of wheels rising up and derailing. To quote one of the other owners "working check rails, whatever next!"

Please do say hello to us at Bognor if you're visiting!

Till next time

Well, the show at Bognor went really well! A few non layout related issues were found, mainly the fiddle yard lines distorting due to the venue having floor heating, which evidently was on all of Saturday night...

Unfortunately I suffered a rolling stock issue whilst doing the back to backs on one of my pullmans. The insulation on one of the wheels perished and blew one of the transformers to the layout, and also melted the bogie!

Aside from that, the show went really well, and we had a lot of nice comments from visitors!

See you all in Alton on 3rd to 4th of Feb!

Footage taken from the Bognor Model Railway Exhibition has been compiled into a 20 minute long running session for those who couldn't make the show. Two versions are available below.

Now only a few weeks to go until it's next outing at Alton on 3rd/4th February.

You have an amazing set of stock! I particularly love that carpark shot at 3:03 - great stuff :)

We're very lucky that some of the owners own an impressive amount of NSE era stock, including some unique pieces such as the 4EPB and 442. The layout does have some great places in which we can get some interesting shots as well, like the car park. We would have loved to have got some different angles but the layout was packed for most of the day.
