RMweb Premium jjb1970 Posted October 28, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 28, 2023 They were very imposing machines with real presence. Sadly they were already endangered by the time I started travelling around China but I managed to see a handful working. To me there's something very different about seeing trains actually at work compared to preserved railways and mainline excursion trains for preserved locomotives. 1

Mol_PMB
Sadly the Jingpeng itself had been dieselised by the time I got there. But the Daban-Lindong-Chabuga section was still steam-hauled when I was there and I enjoyed both photographing and driving some trains on that section. Some previous practice on the Harz with locos fitted with Troffimoff valves made me look like I knew what I was doing.
