Ian Rathbone
I painted this model many years ago - GS&WR No. 273. Scratch built by an unknown builder in 7mm scale, 5’ - 3” gauge. Can anyone tell me what it is? Ian R Edited October 29, 2023 by Ian Rathbone More information
John M
Great Southern and Western Railways 273 an ex-Waterford Limerick and Western Railway 2-4-0 one of 8 locos designed under Robinson as WLWR loco engineer built by Dubs and Co 1892-4 one of four members of the class withdrawn by the GSWR between 1906-13. I have no information on the original WLWR name or running no. The remaining locos were classified Class 276 by the GSR or Inchacore Class G3, 291 the last member survived until 1959.

Thank you John, much appreciated. Here’s another WL&WR loco, designed by Robinson, scratch built by Mike Edge to 18.2 mm gauge. Ian R
jhb171achil
Beautiful model, and well painted! The GSWR took over the WLWR, though, a couple of years after they replaced their WLWR maroon with GSWR (pre-grey!) lined black, so no ex-WLWR loco would have ever carried GSWR green. However, as the model shows, GSWR green would have suited them well. 291 & 293 of that class, somewhat bizarrely, were regulars on the Loughrea branch from the 1930s to early 50s…. chris45lsw
The WL&WR Nos. were: 10, 20, 22, 23, 43, 44, 47 & 48. In the same order they became GS&WR: 263, 273, 275, 276, 290, 291, 292 & 293. So 273 was WL&WR No. 10 (withdrawn 1909). The GS&WR class was 263 but 263, 273, 275 & 292 were the four withdrawn pre GSR hence the GSR classification 276. The four survivors were withdrawn:- 276 - 1949 290 - 1951 291 - 1959 293 - 1954 Chris KT

It appears to be the earliest photo in the station; Lawrence, Clements, Fry, Welch, Mahon and even Casserley and Perkins seem to have ignored the place!
