Ian Lilley
I am just starting to assemble some of new Dean bogies.Previous Association bogies I have made have had a pivot hole which took a 10BA bolt, but the Dean's pivot hole seems smaller(possibly 12BA?)Can anyone please advise so I can obtain the correct bolts? Thanks in advance, Ian Lilley
ShadowinLinby
Hi Ian - I'd stick with 10ba and open the holes out in the etch - I personally think 12ba is a bit small for a bogie mount but I'm sure others will have a different view
Caley Jim
I always use 12BA bolts (or offcuts) as bogie mounts. Never had any problems. Jim
Ian Lilley
Yes,that was my initial thought but that would preclude using the bolsters and washers supplied as part of the kit since opening out the holes in them would render them too fragile-currently digging through my scrap box to see if any left-overs from previous constructions will provide a solution(apologies for opening a new topic for this-I had intended posting it in the 2mm products topic but my fingers deceived me) Thanks,Ian
VRBroadgauge
12BA work fine. All my bogie stock use them.
ShadowinLinby
On my own there then - however my comment was based on the way I've developed for mounting my bogies which will be appearing in the 2mm mag at some point
RMweb Premium nick_bastable Posted November 3, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 3, 2023 3-132 Drive Bush soldered to the floor, tapped 2mm washers as required and bogie secured ( its 2mm as Ive a huge bag of them )
ShadowinLinby
That just goes to show there are no original ideas - that's the method I use - the use of the drive bush gives a consistent, but adjustable if required, ride height
ShadowinLinby
I don't solder the bush in place for ease of removal should any wear take place. Bush is opened out to 1.8mm which is a nice slide fit over the 10ba stud
Caley Jim
I always arrange that one bogie can rock transversely and the other longitudinally. The later keeps the vehicle steady while at the same time introducing an element of compensation. Jim
