Working Timetables

Recommended Posts

The Southern Region issued one for the whole line; when the WR took over the northern part the WR included the S& D in their Bristol Division WTTs. See https://www.rmweb.co.uk/topic/62840-somerset-dorset-working-timetables/ - I don't know what the SR did, but presumably something similar.

A Google search produced https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/394980715237. I know nothing about the seller, but since it is a reprint there may be other copies available elsewhere on the internet.

This working timetable was Reprinted for the S&D Railway Trust in 1984 according to my copy.  I must have obtained it from them so it could be a good place to start.

Whilst the attached is from an earlier post in 2012 it is for freight in1963, when you get to the last pages 57, 58 & 59 it provides the rostering of locomotives from Templecombe & Highbridge shed.

From this I'm hoping to work out the passenger turns, having omitted the freight/goods movements.

I'll keep you posted.

I have a copy of WTT Passenger & Freight 1955 (reprint produced by S&DRT in 1984) I could extract the Branch Line movements if that is of any help?

Also "The District Controller's View No. 5 Somerset & Dorset Summer Saturday 1957" has a wealth of information and for the branch also covers SX & SO. There are a few errors but in the main its a good read.

BRANCH LINE Highbridge - Evercreech - Highbridge

So!

Looking at " Working Time Table Local Freight Trains Bristol District 17Th June 1963" pages 57 -59, from the duty rosters Bristol 978, 984, 985 & 986 (two locos), i can see clearly marked by a P in each of the turns, P stands for passenger.

When looking back to "Working Time Table Passenger Train s Bristol District 12th Sep to 11th June 1961" all the times of the trains in the 1963 Freight WTT marked P are the same times, including the afternoon 'Perishables' with a slight time difference..

The only variations are for the afternoon milks to and from Bason Bridge.

I therefore conclude that the missing passenger trains 6 no. also ran at the same time as shown in the 1961 WTT, but were purely passenger duty roasters and therefore would not appear in the 1963 WTT for freight.

I hope the above makes sense.
