davidlloyd
Hi, you were all very helpful earlier this year when I was contemplating how to sell about 100 of my locos. i have now got an auction estimate and a price from a few retailers and you were of course right auctions seem to offer the best return after eBay. My question is to anyone who has sold to a major retailer in bulk. Did they haggle the price (automatically) once they had got the goods?( I know the motor car people are notorious for this). I want to sell no hassle, it’s an age thing. thanks in anticipation. Dave
RMweb Premium PMP Posted December 11, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 11, 2023 I helped with a large estate sale which I contacted three of the mainstream retailers to bid on. The items were RTR good quality and boxed, with some WIP items too. We provided itemised lists and photographs of the boxes and some specific items. All three put in bids which were initially rejected, however after discussions all three rebid, at that point the list dropped to two, and final bid determined the successful purchaser. All contact was professional and courteous and none of the bids were unreasonable. No adjustment was made or requested after purchase. I’d happily deal with the three retailers again. They were in alphabetical order. When I read them most occasions the commentators clearly have no commercial acumen, or an unrealistic expectation of what their items are worth. The estate for whom I was acting were happy with the sale in all aspects. Once the value was agreed, payment was immediate, as was collection. The benefit was a large collection was disposed of quickly and efficiently allowing the state to move on with ‘life’. 4
