An obituary that didn't make the headlines, unsurprisingly, and I've only just seen it myself on an infrequently visited website. But Ben was a regular talking head on various BBC Four documentaries and suchlike covering British/Midlands societal history etc.

Fair play Auntie Beeb. I'm not someone that surf's the web very widely so tend to get my (non headline) news via the ticker-tape on BBC News, or indeed Wheeltappers quite often.

I never read his poetry ( it's an art form I find very difficult to enjoy) but he was an articulate and passionate commentator on current affairs, history and a great advocate for equality who I always enjoyed listening to. Very sad, 65 is not old in today's world, but he made a mark and will be remembered by many.
