Edinburgh model railway show 2024

Returning to the exhibition circuit ELMRC will be holding their first exhibition in a number of years over the weekend of 1st and the 2nd of June 2024 at George Watson's College, Edinburgh.

The Edinburgh and Lothians Miniature Railway Club (ELMRC) are hosting a new exhibition in Edinburgh at

Adults (16 years and over) – £8
Children (5 to 15, must be accompanied by an Adult) – £3

Yes, I understand that there were model railway exhibitions at George Herriot's many years ago but I don't think George Watson's College has been used before.  I hope our prospective customers don't go to the wrong venue!!!😭

Hi all,

 

Please note the reference to The N Gauge Society isn't quite right!

 

It is the NGS Forth & Clyde Area Group that are attending and providing a range of demonstrations of N Gauge modelling.

 

A fair range of subjects will be covered!

 

So far - Building NGS kits, Building Laser Cut buildings. Decal and weathering models. 

 

As usual we are quite happy to answer any queries on N Gauge subjects, not just the Society but general queries about N Gauge modelling.

As an outsider in Edinburgh I, too, am not sure which are 'right' and which are 'wrong' though it seems to matter for job interviews.  It can be amusing to see the hierarchy at work amongst middle-aged men.  Growing up in, the west of Scotland being asked what school I went to was for another, and rather unpleasant, reason.

 

More importantly, I am looking forwrad to the show and have it in my diary.

There isn’t a right and wrong school in Edinburgh - say I, as someone who went to one of the schools mentioned. But those of a certain age remember the model railway shows held many, many years ago in George Heriot’s School, and if you go there on 1 or 2 June, you have definitely gone to the wrong school that day!

Set up was almost complete last night, as you can see below.  Hope to see some of you at our first show in ages over the weekend.  Less than two hours to opening now.

Great show today, I really enjoyed it. Good to see Eastern Steel & Iron, probably my favourite layout there today.

Yes, I enjoyed the show today.  There was a high standard of modelling on all the layouts, and good trade support from the small number of traders there.  United Mills was my favourite, although I thought that all the layouts were interesting.  I felt rather sorry for the lads operating Glendevon, out in the entrance hall and away from the main show, as they seemed to get far fewer spectators.  Also, thumbs up for the catering.

 

Numbers of visitors seemed a bit thin, but then maybe families opted for the Meadows Festival, instead.  Usually, the Meadows Festival seems to coincide with a weekend downpour, but this year, we have had a (welcome) sunny weekend.

That's the club's own layout.  It was originally going to be in the hall combined with its sister layout, Yetts o' Muckhart, but as we booked layouts and agreed the space that the traders wanted, we realised that something wasn't going to fit.  As you note, where Glendevon was wasn't an ideal spot for traders and it wouldn't have seemed right to put one of the guest layouts out there.

 

Most members had a session operating in amongst a variety of other jobs that filled the rest of the day. 

 

Day one was a success.  Hopefully day two will be as well and then we can decide what to do about next year.

A welcome return to have an Exhibition in Edinburgh after quite a few decades. The Show had a fine balance of layouts and traders stands with good catering as well. In addition there was a friendly atmosphere throughout making for an enjoyable time.

 

Whilst the Club's Glendevon layout was out in the entrance hall it still attracted many viewers and from a personal point of view it was pleasing to see a fair number of kit built locos of local classes mainly of North British Railway origin. Well done to the club modellers who built and painted them, really good work.

 

Hopefully there will be a good turnout tomorrow and also another Exhibition next year!

Hi folks,

 

I was rather impressed by this gathering.  Good selection of layouts, some truly outstanding modelling, and a chance to meet some other residents of this parish.  I learned some useful bits'n'pieces from a couple of exhibitors too.  My wife went with me and we both enjoyed the time there.  Let's hope it leads to a repeat performance next year.

Yes, I agree the comments above. Excellent venue, plenty of space, and interesting selection of layouts and traders. It was a fabulous day weather wise in Edinburgh - our first real summer day after weeks of rain and wet - and I hope that didn’t reduce footfall.

It may well have - the Meadows Festival was certainly busy and it was a nice day to be outside.  Unfortunately, without any previous attendance data, we've noting to compare it with - it was infinitely higher than last year (and the year before)!  😁  Footfall was slightly lower than I was hoping, but still respectable enough.  I think tomorrow is to be a little cooler and not quite as sunny, so we'll see if that translates into higher attendance on the Sunday.  That said, of those who bought advanced tickets, I think the majority of them turned up today.
