Colinrev
Fairly new to 00 gauge having switched from n. I want to incorporate a couple of Home signals and would appreciate advice. I’ve purchased a Quick Assembly Ratio kit and found it very fiddly, not quick at all. Hornby don’t make lower quadrant Home and I’m not prepared to spend £30+ on Dapol. Quite happy for it to be hand operated but would like to include a nano led ( which I already have). No experience of scratch building. Any ideas. The Great Bear
Model Signal Enginering sold by Wizard Models do loads of signal parts, including GWR. You can make most signals using their stuff. But, if you find the Ratio kits hard, the MSE stuff will probably be harder not least soldering of some parts is needed. Patience and practice is needed. The only easy option, albeit at a cost is the Dapol signals I think.
2251
Those Ratio kits are quite dated (I think I must last have put one together about 25 years ago) and "quick" is perhaps a misnomer. But might it be worth persevering? They are cheap enough that if you muck up one or two you haven't lost a huge amount and do produce a reasonable model for what they are. Personally, I wouldn't bother with an LED. The oil lamps in the prototype are so dim you can't see them in daylight and so there is really only any point in lit lamps on a layout if you plan on "night time" operation. 1
