RMweb Gold Phil-Essex Posted July 13, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 13, 2010 Hello, I started a blog about my layout last year but didn't really like the blog format so now I am going to try a topic instead. The layout is OO gauge set around the 1960's, it is housed in my shed and is 10 foot by 8 foot. This is my first attempt at a layout since my childhood, The track plan is similar to the plan below. The track is in place and has been wired for DCC (Gaugemaster Prodigy) with points controlled by stud and probe. Here are a few pictures showing the progress so far. Sorry about the quality I took them with my phone and the light was quite poor. The scenery is at a very early stage all of the buildings you see below were just placed temporarily for the pics. This is the steam shed housing a couple of diesels View across the turntable The Hornby coaling tower View of the station area Spent the last two nights ballasting the shed area using woodland scenics ballast and a mix of Copydex/Water to fix it in place. This is my first attempt at ballasting which I actually quite enjoyed. I will post more pictures when I get chance to do some more work on the layout. Any comments/suggestions are most welcome. RMweb Gold Phil-Essex Posted July 14, 2010 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 14, 2010 I will try and take some better pictures with my proper camera tonight. I think I need to increase the lighting in the shed as well, the current two small flourescents are not bright enough.
thirty2a
Looks really good so far, is it set in any area or location?
RMweb Gold Phil-Essex Posted July 14, 2010 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 14, 2010 I grew up right next to the East Coast Mainline so I have a preference for LNER locos and stock. I didn't base the layout anywhere in particular though, I just wanted somewhere to run trains and try to learn how to do the scenic side of things. I have been told that the station area is reminiscent of the great central line with the platforms accessed from an over station. I have three small children so it had to be a tail chaser so they could play trains (not me of course.. ahem).
