Chris Higgs Posted July 26, 2010 Share Posted July 26, 2010 I'm looking for a bit of help identifying a few buffer stops which I photographed last week at the Buckinghamshire Railway centre This seems to be a heavyweight version of a MS&L/GCR design I have a drawing for Not sure about this one although I think I have seen something similar in photos of the GER The third is quite similar in shapeto some CR designs, but the mounting plate for the beam itself seems different Any ideas would be gratefully received Chris Higgs Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I had thought about that, but the LNWR buffer I have a drawing of is more square at the top of the side rails, and does not have the third rail back curving up Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
Pyewipe Jct Posted July 26, 2010 Share Posted July 26, 2010 Hello Chris, I think the third one is an MS&LR/GCR design - 'Pre-Grouping Trains on British Railways: The LNER Companies' by Peter Hay has a photo (Plate 79) of an LNER Class S1 0-8-4T at Gorton in 1951 that has a buffer stop of apparently identical design just in shot in the lower right-hand corner. The third one is an LNER standard one, as it is identical to the one that was installed at Romford, and identical to the restored one at Chappel, East Anglian Railway Museum.
