Brush47337
I posted this old print of mine in my Gallery page and as yet - we have no answers to what number is this? Why would Doncaster send it south without number? Did Old Oak paint some 50's? Sorry the image is not crystal clear but here is what I know so far. For 29 years I have believed that this is a picture of 50 028 TIGER - as that's what I wrote on the back of the print. However ...... it has been pointed out that the name plate looks a "bit large" to be "The TIGGER" so........... .............My note book lists the following 11 Class 50's being on shed that day 30.01.1980 This is the order I recorded them - starting as usual at the turntable end having "sneaked in" 50 038 Formidable 50 040 Leviathan 50 043 Eagle 50 027 Lion 50 037 Illustrious 50 036 Victorious 50 025 Invincible 50 028 Tiger 50 029 Renown 50 031 Hood 50 026 Indomitable Looking at my other photos we can rule out 50 038 (large logo at turntable) and 50 036 pictured with 2 x 47's. By the order of the negatives I think it has to be either 50 028 Tiger (although I agree the plate looks too long) or......... 50 025 Invincible........ which is a contender or perhaps......50 029 Renown. I have zoomed into the original - it is a 30 year old smudge (even the weather that day was foggy). I wrote 50 028 on the back of the photo but .....looking at the nameplate I am now thinkng 50 025 Invincible. Does anyone know the dates either of these machines were refurbished - this looks to be "just arrived fresh" on depot. And now........ if you are still reading this guff (well done) and have a photo..... Thanks in advance - delighted if this is 50 015, 50 047 or 50 049 as I never did see those 3......! Flood
I posted this old print of mine in my Gallery page and as yet - we have no answers to what number is this? Why would Doncaster send it south without number? They wouldn't Did Old Oak paint some 50's? Yes, 50034 is seen in Plate 29 of Profile of the 50s on 21st April 1981 with no numbers or emblems (date in the book actually incorrect see below) Sorry the image is not crystal clear but here is what I know so far. By the order of the negatives I think it has to be either 50 028 Tiger (although I agree the plate looks too long) or......... 50 025 Invincible........ which is a contender or perhaps......50 029 Renown. Stuart I'm looking through as many 1981 photos I can find, that low "Danger Keep Clear of Shutter Blades" sign is a massive pointer. Should find the answer in a few hours...... Edit 01:26: The photo shown on this link clinches it. 50034 Furious, January 24th 1981.

Brush47337
Mr Flood - that was a great piece of detective work and very, very fast. You are spot on with the date - my Gallery thread called it right - it was indeed 30.01.1981 and even though I mentioned "29 years ago" - I still made a typo and said this was 1980 when in fact it was 1981. thanks for sorting this - I didn't even list 50 034 as a 12th Class 50 that day. I only needed the 3 back then (015 + 047 + 049) so would not have shown much interest in the name / number puzzle. Thanks again - nice photo in the link - A bit cleaner and a better day than when I turned up a few days later. Stuart
