34theletterbetweenB&D
While ambling around the Oxenhope Carriage shed yesterday, I got into a conversation with a couple of the restoration volunteers, who consequently showed me some of their work on the L&Y carriages there. The mini-tour ended with an L&Y club car found as a grounded body in use as a cricket pavilion; now mounted on a BR 57' chassis to make it a runner and under (extensive) restoration to reproduce the original appearance. The interior of the saloons are going to be a thing to see when complete. The usual high grade joinery, but it was the interior partitions set with huge elliptical windows of double bevelled glass which made the appearance exceptional. Clearly the business folk who were prepared to stump up for a club car service had high expectations, as once complete I suspect it will look rather like an interior at the Louvre...
